What our clients say about us
Our skilled team is here and ready to help whenever you need assistance
I have used lower-power PoE splitters rated at 12V 1A in the past, and even with nothing connected to the 12V output, those devices still showed a very small power draw on the switch, usually around 0.5 watts. This splitter behaves differently, as it relies on the downstream device to draw enough power to trigger the PoE handshake on the switch. In my case, one of my devices, a Netgear R7000 router, does not draw sufficient power during startup to activate PoE on the port. As a result, the switch never enables PoE unless the splitter is “tricked” into seeing a load. I initially solved this by placing a resistor across the 12V lines to force enough draw for the handshake. Once PoE is enabled, the system works perfectly and remains stable during normal operation. However, after a power outage or interruption, the switch will not re-enable PoE unless the load is applied again. I contacted customer support, and while they were responsive and willing to discuss the issue, they ultimately explained that the behavior is intentional and working as designed. They advised increasing the load but did not provide a specific accessory or guidance to do so. Through further testing, I discovered that a 1k-ohm, 1/2-watt resistor was sufficient to reliably trigger PoE. I went a step further and soldered the resistor inline with the power cable to create a small “load dongle,” which I insulated with heat shrink. Since this is an indoor setup, weatherproofing was not a concern. With this modification, the system now restarts correctly after power failures without any manual intervention.

I had an IP camera installed on a Cat-6 cable run that measured roughly 520 feet, which pushed well beyond typical PoE distance limits. The camera would begin to boot but only received about 3.5 watts, even though it required 5.5 watts to operate correctly. I came across this non-powered mid-span PoE repeater and, considering the price, decided it was worth trying despite some initial skepticism. I spliced the REVOTECH unit into the cable at about 225 feet from the head end using RJ45 modular ends. Once everything was reconnected, I immediately saw the indicator lights on the REVOTECH device turn on. By the time I moved a scissor lift into position to reach the camera, which is mounted around 35 feet high, the camera was already fully online and working. The setup was connected to a PoE switch at the head end supplying 25 watts. The camera automatically negotiated the power it needed, which in this case was 5.5 watts. Using a Trend Networks RV171000 camera tester, I measured approximately 12.5 watts of available power at the far end after installing the repeater. The improvement was immediate and clearly measurable. Based on this success, I have already purchased additional units for another camera at the same site and for future projects. If your cable tests good electrically but fails due to excessive length, this device is very likely to solve the problem.

For context, I work in this field professionally, so my technical skill level is well above that of the average user. I chose this camera as a way to solve what would normally be a $150 problem with a solution that cost only $42. The more expensive option would have required an open-board camera with roughly one-third the resolution and about one-quarter of the field of view, making it a clear compromise. I successfully integrated this camera into two enterprise-level VMS platforms without any major issues. Using the documentation provided, I quickly identified the correct RTSP stream for one system, while the second system auto-discovered the camera and only required minor configuration adjustments. Once configured, the camera came online immediately and performed as expected. Anyone with a solid understanding of IP cameras and network configuration should have little trouble adding this device to their system. Given the price point, I honestly expected a lightweight plastic housing. Instead, the camera arrived with a solid, all-metal enclosure that feels durable and well-built. The housing also appears to be well sealed, which adds confidence in its long-term reliability. Based on this experience, I fully plan to purchase several more units for professional use and at least a couple more for my home setup.

Walter Sharrow
I have been running this security camera for about two weeks, and my experience has been mixed, though not entirely negative. If you have solid technical skills and a properly secured network, it can be a workable budget option, but it definitely comes with quirks. One of the biggest concerns is network security, as the camera repeatedly attempts to contact servers in China to activate a CloudSee service that does not appear to be usable. Internally, this device is a SUNYWO JVSWO708-PO300M2 made by Jovision, which explains the cloud behavior, but it also means strong network isolation is essential. I highly recommend placing it on a separate VLAN with no internet access, which I did using UniFi gear along with outbound traffic blocking. Without those protections, I would not feel comfortable running this camera on my main network. Once isolated, the camera does work with UniFi Protect, although getting it connected required trial and error. Advanced adoption is needed using the camera’s IP address with port 6688, and creating a separate ONVIF user is critical, as the default admin account caused connection failures. Switching the video codec from H.265 to H.264 was also necessary to maintain a stable connection in Protect. Video quality is respectable for the price, RTSP works reliably in VLC with both video and audio, and overall stability has been solid with no crashes over 24-hour periods. However, audio does not function in UniFi Protect, the timestamp constantly resets to 2015 despite NTP configuration, and AI detections are unavailable due to camera-side limitations in ONVIF.
